Dog's Name: Shilo (aka: Granny) Breed: Min Pin Approximate Age: 13 years Approximate Weight: 12 lbs Currently Living at: A Foster Home with fenced yard and several other dogs Adoption Fee: Shilo (a.k.a., Granny) came to the Animal Welfare League of Fredrick County (AWLFC) from our local animal shelter with her friend Hailey. They were both terrified in the large kennel situation and staff members at the shelter were anxious to find these little girls a refuge. Thats when AWLFC stepped in and found fosters who were willing to take two dogs with health issues. Granny had apparently been used for breeding and had never been spayed. Her teeth were in really bad shape and worst of all, she had a severe eye condition. She was unable to produce any tears (known as dry eye) but it had been neglected for so long that both her eyes were completely covered in mucus and she was in considerable pain. Since she arrived at her foster home, AWLFC has paid to have her see an animal eye specialist and all efforts were made to promote her making her own tears again, but those efforts were unsuccessful. Although she still has dry eye, her eyes are now lubricated regularly and she is no longer in pain. She has turned into a happy little girl who absolutely loves to follow her foster mom everywhere in the house and her foster dad all over the big back yard. Her eyesight isn't great, but she can definitely keep up. Granny is approximately 12 years old. Some people may look at her age and consider her to old to adopt. However, they couldn't be more wrong. The love this little girl gives on a daily basis is precious whether it is for 4 years or 15 years. Maybe because she has had such a hard life, she seems to appreciate every little kind gesture made to her. Who could be more deserving of comfortable golden years then her? Granny is crate trained, house trained, and absolutely loves to ride in a car. She is happiest when she is with you and covered in her little baby blanket. The fosters have seven other dogs (including their foster Hailey) and she gets along great with all of them. Due to her age and size, she would not do well in a home with small children. If you can open your heart to make Grannys golden years comfortable and happy, please also consider her best friend, Hailey.
